Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are crucial to many charities, and Hill Close Gardens is no exception. We can offer a range of options, from gardening through to interesting projects.

We welcome people with a wide range of interests and skills to come and get involved at Hill Close.  We invite new volunteers to join our regular Garden Team Days, which currently take place on the first and third Tuesday of each month, and occasional Saturdays. We hope to expand these sessions soon, so if those times don’t suit you, please do get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.

Our dedicated garden volunteers play a vital role in caring for and developing the historic gardens. Whether it’s weeding, composting, pruning, hedge cutting, or harvesting produce, every task helps the gardens thrive.

As you become more involved, there may be opportunities to look after your own border or area within the gardens—a wonderful chance to nurture a space of your own, especially if you don’t have a garden at home.  Head Gardener, Neil, is on-site on Thursdays.

Chris works with her proactive Children & Families team, providing events for local children and families, including the popular summer Teddy Bears Picnic, children’s workshops on Apple Weekend in October and the special space that is the Children’s Garden.

Trustee Jenny is currently sorting through our substantial historic records.  She would like physical help with this, moving the boxes to safe storage and ultimately up to the Warwick County Record Office to be assessed for acquisition.  Anyone interested in researching more history who responds to this can develop their interest if they wish, should they join us.

Or alternatively, if you have an interest in the social history of Warwick, we need more Tour Guides.  Training provided, just bring the enthusiasm.  Tour groups are notified in advance and have a variety of interests, from the history of the Gardens to its setting in beautiful Warwick.

Our Tearoom volunteers serve hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks to visitors, at weekends, under the guidance of May, our Tearoom Manager.

So, if you have a few hours a month or more to spare, please get in touch to discuss the many alternatives we can offer, indoors or out, with the public or in the back office, weekdays Thursday/Friday or weekends.

Our volunteers have regular coffee mornings, so sign up and come for an update and chance to meet other volunteers, and Members.

A new Volunteers Charter is being created and will appear on our website in early 2026.
